Game History

Jack briefly disappeared when the Doctor returned to Cardiff, returning to Torchwood several days later. He has spoken as little as possible about what went on while he was gone, though the Master's return has made it necessary for him to share some information. The dynamic in the Hub has changed dramatically with people coming through the Rift left, right and centre. He’s trying to keep the team together, but can’t help feeling as though he’s fighting a losing battle and is just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

An encounter with some alien tech led to Jack spending two weeks in Gwen's body, which was quite an experience for everyone involved.

Jack's also taken to keeping a tally of staff resignations.

Jack has died once in-game (so far) which resulted in switching he and Gwen back into their usual bodies again.

When the McManus twins kidnapped Ianto, Jack went a little more insane than usual. Between that and all the resignations, he's begun to wonder if he's such a good leader after all.

Despite all kinds of people dropping through the Rift right, left and centre, Jack spent a week in London on business, attending meetings that he'd been postpoing for the better part of six months and could no longer put off. When he returned to Cardiff he discovered that the Master had taken Ianto, Adric and Tosh hostage and had control of the Hub.

Jack spent some time back in London re-opening Torchwood One. When he returned, he filled the Information Centre and strategic points of the Hub with glitter-filled heart-shaped balloons and pink bears just to see Ianto's reaction. Ianto retaliated by filling Jack's office with instant snow.

Jack contracted the flu which affected him more than it would a normal person. He was sick for roughly a week and eventually died.

Game Canon

  • Jack loves his Coat. A lot.
  • He once had a dog named Sandy after the dog in Annie
  • He has been in love four five times in his life
  • He's been married once
  • He had a brother
  • His favourite film is Casablanca
  • He seldom sleeps and often gets nightmares when he does - particularly when he's sleeping alone
  • Although Jack is immortal, he can be injured. He tends to heal slightly faster than the average person, but not instantaneously

Relationships

Current Torchwood Three Staff

He’s not sure how much the members of Torchwood trust him, and sometimes feels woefully under-appreciated.

He very much likes Toshiko and thinks she's exceptionally brilliant, but privately worries about her mental health when she spends too long at work.

He respects Owen, though isn’t sure how Owen feels about him, and tends to treat him unnecessarily harshly as a way of keeping him in line. That completely blew up in Jack's face and he transferred Owen to the new Torchwood One, despite knowing it wasn't not the best thing for the team. He transferred Owen back again after several conversations and the two are currently polite to each other, but slightly awkward.

Ianto is the closest thing he has to a confidant, primarily because Jack knows how good he is at keeping secrets, but he also genuinely enjoys Ianto's company. After dancing around the issue for months, Jack's finally admitted that they're in a relationship (albeit not your traditional hearts-and-flowers type relationship) and said 'I love you'. Their relationship still seems to be fairly low-key, and both of them are apparently quite happy with the situation.

He very much likes and trusts Martha and in some ways finds her easier to talk to than anyone else in the Hub because of what they went through together in the Year That Never Was. He also has a lot of respect for her because she's adapted to Torchwood Three and treats him as her boss, despite having met him in distinctly non-work circumstances.

He is very fond of Adric and very impressed with his technical knowledge. He worries sometimes that Torchwood is the wrong place for someone as young as Adric, but feels that he's a valuable part of the team, despite not being field-trained at all.

Recent events have seen Jack try to distance himself from the team in an effort to maintain his authority.

Everyone Else

He gets along well with Gwen (most of the time) and has become a lot closer to her after the body-swap incident. He's going to miss her, but knows that she's very much needed at Torchwood One.

He thinks Alice is just a little crazy. He did like her until she threw her weight around, yelled at him and disobeyed his orders, at which point he promptly fired her and now wants nothing more to do with her.

He likes Mickey Smith and frequently talks to him about his concerns regarding Rose. He wouldn't call Mickey a friend, but does respect his opinion and treats him as an equal.

He gets along very well with Harry Sullivan, despite the fact that Harry is from UNIT. He's not sure why he trusts Harry so much, but finds him easy to talk to and likes his company.

He has met Seamus Harper and thinks he's a lot of fun and could be a useful person to have around. Part of this is because Jack enjoys having someone from his own era to speak to, even if Seamus' version of Earth is very different to the one Jack is familiar with.

Jack is very protective of Rose and thinks that working at Torchwood One will be good for her.

He slightly resents The Doctor (Tenth), for coming into Jack’s space and taking over (as he always does), though Jack does admire and respect him and will defend him against anyone who criticises him.

He loves The Doctor (Ninth), and is glad to see him again, though his appearance has brought up some painful memories.
