Game History

Initially Gwen was not around the Hub much, taking some time off to work on her relationship with Rhys.

She was subsequently one of the Torchwood staff who got their heads messed with by the Master. He planted suggestions in Gwen's mind that heightened her protective instincts, while at the same time making her unable to think rationally about anything upsetting without a painful buzzing starting up in her head. This had the side effect of turning her into a 'mother hen', obsessed with everyone's welfare. She escaped the Doctor's attempt at fixing the problem, and was eventually cured by Susan.

Not long after, an encounter with some alien tech swapped Gwen and Jack into each others' bodies for two weeks. During this time she lived in Ianto's flat, taught Jack how to imitate her accent well enough to fool Rhys over the phone, and got a little paranoid about what exactly Jack was doing to her body (and who with). She also nearly became second-in-command by default one night when Jack tried to demote Owen, but to her relief, it didn't take.

She and Jack were returned to their own bodies the same night, after an accident with the same alien tech. Jack's body was killed, allowing his usual resurrection mechanism to kick in and retrieve him; Gwen woke up in her own body a little while later, which she took quite calmly considering she didn't actually remember much about how she'd got there.

Gwen was absent dealing with a family emergency for most of October, and as she was transferred to Torchwood One shortly after her return, she never really got back into the Torchwood Three loop. As a result, she finds herself being tripped up at the oddest times by her general ignorance of the events that she missed during that period.

Relationships

Torchwood Three

Gwen and Jack are quite close in some ways, especially since the bodyswap, but she became increasingly disillusioned with both him and Torchwood over the months after his return. This has improved since she moved to London.

She still cares more about Owen than she thinks she really should, but she tries to ignore it. In her last months at Torchwood Three, she also grew a bit tired of watching him constantly self-destruct, and of wondering whether his next argument with Jack would be the one where they actually tried to kill each other. (She has moments about once a week where she almost calls Cardiff to make sure they haven't. Almost.)

Gwen has always liked Ianto, and appreciates the support he gave her over the months before she left Cardiff. When she thinks about it, however, she finds she has grave suspicions about what he and Jack may or may not have been up to while Jack was in her body. (She mostly tries not to think about it.)

They're not close, but Gwen and Tosh have as ordinary a friendly working relationship as is possible given their past issues and the fact that this is Torchwood.

Owen, Tosh and Ianto all three fall into the category of people Gwen can get very protective of when threatened, though she won't always act on it: she's aware her responses at such times are not always particularly rational. Jack fell out of this category some months ago, and while his status has probably reverted by now, this remains untested.

Gwen initially felt a strange mixture of resentment and worry for Martha. She's mellowed considerably since she realised that Martha is perfectly willing to stand up to Jack when necessary, and knows exactly what she's let herself in for with Owen.

She respects Adric's intelligence and work ethic, and otherwise has no strong feelings about him.

Torchwood One

Gwen always means to get to know Rose better. It just sort of never happens.

Eugene Jones. Only one word for this: awkward. You'd think Jack could have told her a bit earlier that the guy was alive again. Still, they get by.

(Gwen and Sebastian have never met 'on screen', but since they really should have by now, let's just assume that they get on, and in fact she quite likes him. Very different to Jack, of course.)

Everyone Else

Gwen was originally Alice's main point of contact with Torchwood Three. She likes her but doesn't come close to understanding her.

She is grateful to Susan for getting the Master out of her head, and would gladly get to know her better if she weren't just slightly suspicious of Time Lords in general.

She's never actually encountered the Doctor in person (any of him), but Gwen would still slap him (the Tenth) six ways from Sunday if she discovered him endangering her friends again. Other incarnations are tarred by association.
